March 2014

Late March 2014
One memory I have from growing up was listening to all the ‘teachers’ in the family tell about the unique and unusual names they had come across in their circles of students.  I’ll start with the twin girls called Irene and Urene but spelled Irine and Urine.  There were the brothers with the infamous names of Lemongello and Orangello.  Wait, slow down and read those names again.  Could they originate from lemon jello and orange jello? I’m not sure I ever believed that Nosmo King was a real name.   Anyway, I have had an opportunity to peruse the inmate log here in the library and I now have some interesting names to add to the conversation.  I’ll start with these: Delivetrick, Diaquan, Chaunquinn, Dezmon Reup, Pamplin, Audith.  There are brothers: Ural & Eula, and Breshon & Laquentes.  I must include these more complete names which just roll off the tongue better when together: Felicien Baongoli and my personal favorite – Jacdouglas Buford.  More to come another day.

Today, you should play an old one from Aerosmith.  “Home Sweet Home,”  because that’s where I want to be.  And I like the tune.

March 2014

I cannot tell you how awesome it has been to get to talk to Nathan and Laney on the phone.  They sound so grown up.  It really is a blessing.  I love them so much and miss them terribly, but to get to hear them puts a smile on my face just thinking about it.  Love to them all for making a difference.  –Oh yea, and I get to hear Makenlee squealing in the background when I’m talking to Mark.  That puts a smile on my face too. And poor ole Regan, I don’t think she ever has a chance to make much of a racket with the busy bee around her.  That girl is something.  Can’t wait to hug on them one day soon too.

I have told people, maybe not on the blog, but in real life, about some of the ‘recipes” or “meals” we make in here with what is available to us on commissary.  Well here is a recipe for cookies.  It’s probably not too healthy and definitely not the cheapest either, but you have to admit that the ingredients do sound good.
4 packs of instant cocoa
6oz peanut butter
20 packs of Sweet & Low
2 T butter
½ pint milk
1 box of instant oatmeal (10 packets) ours is variety of flavors.
2 packs of Ker’s Energy Trail Mix
Stir together everything but the oatmeal and trail mix in a microwave safe bowl.  Microwave for 5 to 8 minutes – checking and stirring about every two minutes.  When it is bubbly and starting to stick to the side of the bowl, it is ready for the oatmeal and trail mix.  (Have them all opened and ready).  Mix it well and return to microwave for one additional minute.  Remove from microwave and spoon onto was paper (we don’t have) or plastic wrap or your bunk or wherever you can.  Let cool and serve or hoard or sell.  Enjoy.
